How to prepare for a Newborn Session

In fort worth and trying to find out how to prepare for your newborn session?

Lifestyle photography is a genre of photography that aims to capture real life events and situations. The art that happens every day while you snuggle, kiss, hug, and generally love on your littles is what we want to see! It lends itself to a more emotional shot and ideally captures what those picture perfect every day moments between the chaos feel like. The intention is to tell a story, but more importantly your story.

Depending on your session once we finish the lifestyle portion we will move on to posing the baby. This includes some table poses of baby on fabric as well as some props, beds, outfits, etc. This portion baby is still in charge, we will move slowly and methodically to make sure we keep them comfortable while still getting the posing you’d like. Please keep in mind if baby absolutely doesn’t want to do a pose then I will not force it- because of this please expect your posing portion of the session to take time. Be patient. If you feed baby formula then I highly suggest it for this session- even if you normally BF because this will keep baby fuller for longer and give us longer stretches of time to work with.

When do I set up my newborn session?

Ideally we want baby to still be in that super sweet sleepy phase and that really peaks within the first ten days. Does that mean its impossible when they’re older? Absolutely not but just be aware that the session will typically take longer if you want baby asleep. This is not the day to worry about schedules we just want to focus on baby being happy, full belly, and sleepy. Babies tend to have very sharp erratic movements and lack control (duh, they’re babies!) which is why a sleepy and relaxed baby tends to photograph better.

What do I bring to my newborn session?

Be prepared to feed baby during the session! Even if baby came in full they’re still working hard and that can make them hungry and cranky so be ready to fuel those little bellies back up!! Keep any outfits super simple, mostly because they won’t really be seen and have a tendency to bunch up. I provide some simple outfits as well as a variety of wrap colors to help coordinate with your style. Really think simple and timeless here because these will be a once in a lifetime session and before you know it you’ll have a big giant toddler!

Why is a newborn session more expensive?

Simply put they are a lot more time intensive than any other session! Have you noticed babies have different skin coloring than most? Sometimes they’re yellow, pink, have lots of acne, the list goes on and on but basically its a very intensive edit! Takes a ton of time to get correct, and the session takes a lot longer than any other session would because we will follow the pace of what baby wants to do.
